Annadhanam is the sacred tradition of giving food to those in need. It is an ancient spiritual practice. The word ‘annam’ means food and ‘danam’ means the act of giving or donation. Annadhanam can be offered on regular basis and on special occasions. Donors of annadhanam are said to directly attain salvation, Annadanam is also considered pranadhanam (donation of life). Thus, it is known to be devine. The importance of Annadhanam lies in its significance as a selfless act of charity, providing food to the needy and fostering a sense of community. Offering anndanam as prasadam to all the needy and others, will make a person a ‘devotee of the supreme personality of God Head Sri Krishna. Which is the aim of every of living entity. The food we offer becomes prasadam when it is offered to Lord Krishna first and then distributed to all. By offering food to Krishna the food becomes sacred.
